"AI Slop": The Revolt Is Happening!
LinkedIn's added an AI Slop button. Substack's done the same. People are done scrolling past flat, lifeless AI content, and they're saying so, out loud.
Warning: this is a rant, lol.
So, for the past 6 months I've been saying that this is going to happen. LinkedIn has introduced an AI Slop button. Substack's done something similar too. I've said this time and time again, the revolt is happening.
And it's not just the platforms. Here's what people are actually saying on Threads right now:

People aren't quietly scrolling past this anymore. They're saying it out loud, and thousands of people agree.
I was on Threads the other day and saw this video of someone using a tool to bath. It was a shocking video because it looked like the individual hadn't had a shower in years due to the concrete-looking substance coming off his body. This was an AI-generated video to sell a product. I noticed immediately that there was a sconce in the shower lol, and the person was able to go incredibly low with his arms… this video had a lot of engagement, mainly talking about how silly the AI video was.
It's not just video either. Copilot, ChatGPT love to remove any passion in your writing. It wants it to be flat… I'm honestly sick and tired of reading the same flat, emotionless nonsense.
When I created Tonely, I created it to help you be aware of how you may come across, but I still wanted my users to sound like themselves… most products out there just make you sound exactly like everyone else. Where's the fun in that? Where's the passion and spice in that? I like to read articles and think to myself… oh, she got spicy with it, ha.
Don't get me started on photography. In my spare time I direct photography and I do like to take the odd photo. Photography is an artistic expression that is being overtaken by AI… which again is very sad. I admittedly use it for my blog imagery, but I would never use it for anything of true significance. Yes, I see the irony. I'm allowed to be annoyed about it anyway, ha.
For my last blog, I prompted a rose coming out of the ground… it gave me a rose that was artificial. This disgusted me as a budding botanist, lol. I love flowers, plants, medicinal plants, etc. As you can see, I do have quite a few hobbies, but that's beside the point, ha. It could have at least given me a real rose, not an artificial one. But I felt it was fitting, seeing as artificial intelligence made it… sigh.
LinkedIn's AI Slop button isn't anti-AI. It's pro-quality.
Let's be honest, there's genuinely a lot of rubbish out there, and it's got to stop.
They aren't saying you can't use AI. They are saying at least add some creativity to it, at least make it unique and have your personal flair. Don't just leave AI to its own devices. Use it as a tool that can complement your existing creative abilities and personality.
So yes, say NO to AI Slop and YES to individualism and creativity.
